Wiiware is set to launch in just 4 days, and it may be one of the most important features a Nintendo console, especially the Wii, have ever had. Those of us who own a Wii and pay attention to the videogame news know that the third party support is nonexistent with little hope for the future. All of the major publishers like Ubisoft, THQ and EA continue to announce their best games for the PS3 and 360 while refusing to offer anything other than children's games and other casual fare for the Wii. However, Wiiware could change that.
Those of us keeping tabs on Wiiware have noticed how much better most of the games look when compared to the retail games offered by the large publishers. Games like Lostwinds, Gyrostarr, Animales de la Muerte and World of Goo not only look better than many retail Wii games they have a maturity and quality level those other games don't have. This is because these games are being made by small companies with no ties to the publishing giants and the generally low cost of Wiiware development.
If these games get the support they need and are successful it may just force the large publishing giants to take notice and move away from their absurd Wii strategy. Wiiware success may be the turning point that finally brings the Wii real games with real effort that are for a more mature and intelligent audience. However this can only happen if we the gamers get the word out and buy the games. Already Wiiware has shown signs of success in Japan and we can continue to push it upward.
Now I'm not asking you to buy games you don't like. I'm just asking you to get the word out about Wiiware and buy the games you do like. The lower cost is great for those of us who are interested and it makes it a lot easier to buy into a game you're not sure about. Wiiware success can be an important factor in getting the large publishers to finally put some real games on the Wii and we need to spread the word.
Ive been looking forward to may 12, and judging by the success of virtual
console downloads, id say wiiware willl do just fine. hopefully your right
about the publishers...
