There hasn't been a whole lot I've been interested in talking about these past few days, but Square's (now called Square-Enix), sharp turn downward has me scratching my head and wondering what the F happened. Their games of late have been either too eccentric or on a handheld, and if that's not bad enough they apparently don't want to make console game's anymore prefering cell phones, CELL PHONES, as their platform of choice to deliver sequels to games fans would pay triple retail for. What's worse is that their Wii support is non-existent even though they have milked the crap out of Nintendo's DS, and the two major games they had planned for Wii have been MIA for months stirring up rumors of cancellations.
Square was always a company that you knew would always make good, quality games, but their eccentricity has apparently spiraled in on itself forming a swirling hole into mediocrity. What the hell happened? I remember the days when I could count on my yearly square RPG and know that it was going to be awesome. Now we're lucky if we get a game that is on an actual game console or free from some new convoluted gameplay that doesn't work.
I know Square wants to make their super CGI HD video game movie bullshit which will probably take a couple more years, but I really wish they would go back to their roots and offer us quality RPG games that we can expect at a reasonable interval of time. They also need to get their ass in gear with Nintendo. I don't know how Nintendo could allow them to shaft their console, the number one console this generation, while they let Square cash in off the DS.
