May Brings Wiiware!

posted 1 May 2008, Thursday

May is here and it's time to get excited if you are a Wii owner. Why? Because Nintendo is launching Wiiware outside of Japan. Us in North America are scheduled to get it on the 12th and as a bonus we are also getting the preview channel that let's us rate games, watch previews or download DS demos. Unfortunately we have no idea what games are going to launch with the service, but I can safely say that the US launch will feature way better games than the Japanese launch.

The most important aspect about Wiiware, outside of the fact that the games are cheaper, is the fact that the quality of Wiiware games is generally a lot higher than most of the Wii's retail fare. On one hand it's disgusting that major game companies refuse to make a decent retail Wii game, but on the other hand it's nice to know that we are getting some cool games at a good price thanks to Wiiware. A lot of Wiiware games put most retail Wii games to shame.

To get you ready for the launch I've made a list of games you should look out for. The Wiiware service looks very promising and I can only hope that it shames companies into finally putting in some real effort.

- Animales de la Muerte

- Bomberman

- Dr. Mario

- Eternity's Child

- Gyrostarr

- Lostwinds

- Shantae

- Strongbad's Cool Game for Attractive People
