River City Ransom, one of greatest brawlers to grace a videogame console was released yesterday on Nintendo's Virtual Console, and though I can't believe I'm saying it you should not hesitate to buy this game. This is the first VC game that I have no reservations spending money on ($5), and I hope Nintendo of America can get their act together and bring us more of these top tier games (they can start by releasing more than 2 games a week).
I decided against writing a review, but if I were to give it a score it would be 10/10 easily. The VC will be getting Double Dragon next week, but RCR dominates it in just about every way. The fighting is fast and responsive, the controls are simple, the music is great and it has RPG elements. This game is the perfect example of less being more. I mean, there are no super ultra combo systems, no holy angel burst magic, no super mega HD visuals yet it's the best game in it's genre I've ever played. It's pure, concentrated kick ass.
A lot of foolish gamers look back at these games and there limitations and laugh touting HD visuals and realistic blood spatter physics, but it's those exact limitations of earlier consoles that forced developers to produce some of the best gameplay ever. RCR has three simple moves - jump, punch, kick - and I've never had more fun kicking the crap out of the bad guys with them.
I never thought youd say this either, youd should write a review, cuz a rpg
fighter sounds cool, but i dont know anything about.
