The Wii Does Have a Storage Solution

posted 21 March 2008, Friday

With Wiiware on the horizon, one of the biggest complaints about the Nintendo Wii is the lack of a hard drive. In fact the whining and moaning about it has gotten unbearable in some circles. There are a lot of Virtual Console games that can easily take up all of the Wii's 250 megs of reserved memory and with Wiiware there are going to be hundreds more, but Nintendo has already taken care of this problem. Nintendo DOES have a storage solution for the Wii. The problem is that most gamers just don't understand it.

Some gamers think that you have to spend hours deleting, copying or downloading games and that's simply not true. Unless you choose to re-download all your games, which is a viable option, getting your games back into your Wii memory is quick and easy. Here is a breakdown.

Step 1 - Buy and Download game from Nintendo
Step 2 - Copy game to SD card once
Step 3 - Upload from SD card as often as necessary

It's that easy folks. The longest part of that process, depending on how fast your SD card and internet connection are, is downloading the games from Nintendo. The second longest is copying the games to the SD card, which you only have to do ONE TIME, and if you have a fast card you'll barely notice it. Copying games back to your Wii takes seconds. REMEMBER, TRANSFER RATES DEPEND ON HOW FAST YOUR SD CARD IS! IF YOU HAVE A SLOW CARD EXPECT SLOW TRANSFER RATES!

I have a feeling that a lot of people have no idea how simple and fast it is to back up your games to an SD card. I really had no idea how easy it was until I tried it for myself. It's not the horror story idiots are spreading on the internet. Sure, Nintendo should make some improvements, but it's more than adequate for even the biggest game collections.

People keep demanding a hard drive simply because the other guys have one, but if you haven't noticed Nintendo isn't interested in copying the other guys. They already have a system and it works, and you don't have to spend $50+ on a stupid hard drive add-on. And if you're the type who doesn't want to delete games you're not playing then the problem lies with you not Nintendo.

Men, the thing is, who wants to spend his time backing up games on sd cards?? I agree nintendo doesn't need to copy from other consoles, but men space is not a feature, is a need!! that's not copying! is a need that every electronic device is increasing every year, nintendo should do the same, period.

things should be made as simplier as possible - Einstein once quote... (about ur backing up crussade XD )
