Let's be honest. Very few people care about Manhunt 2. It's not a very appealing game, and probably does more to turn people away than draw them in. However, you should care because the blatant censorship of this game has reached very scary levels. Like free speech you don't have to agree with Manhunt 2, but you should defend it's right to exist and be purchased by those who do.
That said, it looks like Manhunt is finally going to see the light of day in the nanny state that is known as the UK. After repeated attempts to ban the game the BBFC has been left with considerable egg on their face as they issue their loser's statement:
We twice rejected Manhunt 2, and then pursued a judicial review challenge, because we considered, after exceptionally thorough examination, that it posed a real potential harm risk.
However, the Video Appeals Committee has again exercised its independent scrutiny. It is now clear, in the light of this decision, and our legal advice, that we have no alternative but to issue an '18' certificate to the game.
By the way, can someone tell me what the hell a "real potential harm risk" is? It's like the most ridiculous fear mongering phrase ever invented that means absolutely nothing. Running down the street with a knife in your hand is a potential harm risk, but you don't see anti-running-with-knife-in-hand police on the corner do you?
In any case the BBFC's attempt to dictate what adults have the right to buy or watch has been squashed by clear thinking people without an agenda. I doubt Manhunt 2 is going to do any worthwhile numbers now, but at least the BBFC were made to look like the idiots they are.
