There has been some hype around the White Engine being developed by Square for Final Fantasy 13 on the PS3, but today the hype can include fans of all platforms. Square has renamed the White Engine 'Crystal Tools' and has turned it into a multiplatform game creation toolset that includes 360, PC and the Wii. Of course the Wii uses a light version of the engine, but it's being used for the Wii nonetheless.

There's some speculation as to what this means, whether Square plans to port games to the Wii, but I think the important thing here is that it shows Square is committed to the Wii and is utilizing their best tech to develop for it which is a hell of a lot more than most other developers can say. This is the first sign of a developer making a Wii game with their best assets instead of a third string team with little to no budget. Even Capcom, which has released the highest quality games for the Wii is yet to dedicate real money and talent to a Wii game.
