Take-Two has finally decided on a course of action in the UK and has decided to appeal the BBFC's refusal to classify the game resulting in an outright ban . According to the BBFC Manhunt 2 was banned because they felt releasing it would involve "a range of unjustifiable harm risks, to both adults and minors." The BBFC has also said that the appeals process is now a legal matter and that they could not comment on it.
I applaud T2 for finally standing up for themselves and fighting for their games, but I doubt Manhunt 2 will get released in the UK. Maybe T2 has been working on a foolproof plan to get the game released, but in any case they have a mountain to climb. If it does by some miracle get approved, though, it can only mean good things here in the US where the ESRB will be painted as another BBFC which got it wrong.
Still the problems here in the US are not as simple since the game was banned in an indirect manner giving the appearance that all is well. Clearly it isn't, and between the ESRB's AO rating, desire to cater to soccer moms and politicians and the console makers refusal to allow adult games in spite of how they are constantly appealing to them, there is a major problem that needs to be fixed.
