Last night I caught the new season of Les Stroud - Survivorman - and the show was as good as ever. In fact it was been better as I noticed the opening credits flash "no TV crew" in the opening credits. Even better was when Les completely contradicted Bear by saying that you SHOULDN'T drink your own urine in a survival situation because you could die. Instead he offered the plastic bag and cup method to distill it into pure water. Now I'm sure both of these methods have been used before by people really needing to survive, but at the moment I'd rather take Les' word for it.
The thing is that the show feels honest. Les has no problem telling the camera that he might have to stop the filming and call in his crew because of severe heatstroke. He comes across as a normal guy that I can relate to when he talks about not being able to sleep because it's too cold or how he has to force himself when eating bugs. He's not over the top and doesn't try to show off because he's really trying to survive and doing something stupid would be... well... stupid, and go against the survival process.
I look forward to this new season of Survivorman, and am really interested in what Discovery plans on doing with the Man v Wild show in light of the controversy. So far I think we're all still waiting for an official word from them about it.
Yeah, I get a kick out of Les. My favorite moment was when he was in the
arctic and made you think he was about to break his own arm to show you
what to do in that situation!
Yeah, that episode where Les acted like he was going to break his arm was
funny.
Actually I don't remember Les starting fire with a coke can but I do
remember MythBusters PROVING that you can. Also if you google starting
fire with a coke can you'll see where people have done it.
