Masachika Kawata Says RE5 Wii Edition a Possibility

posted 9 July 2007, Monday

Masachika Kawata, the producer of Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles said in a French interview that a Wii port of Resident Evil 5 was not out of the question since it hadn't been decided upon. He goes on to say that RE4 and RE:UC are both meant to test the waters to see if a RE5 port would be in Capcom's best interest.

Decisions surrounding the RE5 project were taken a long time ago [perhaps even before Nintendo unveiled Wii-mote?] and they needed to choose quickly on which platform they wanted to develop it. They haven't decided if they will port RE5 on Wii yet. So in a way this game (RE4:Wii); well both games [I think the translator switch Kawata's words to point both games] will help us to test the market, to see if developing this genre on this plateform is interesting. The decision is not made yet. - Translation

I knew that with the astronomical sales of the Wii a Resident Evil 5 port was a good possibility. Capcom isn't a third party developer who shies away from putting their games on consoles where they can make the most money (RE4 Gamecube fiasco), and right now that console is the Wii. However, nothing is set in stone, but I would be surprised if RE5 didn't make it to the Wii at some point in the future.

I hope the Wii gets RE5 and a lot more RE games. I'm already excited about Umbrella Chronicles, and RE4 Wii Edition has proven, without a doubt, that Resident Evil games are better with a Wiimote.

I think that R.E.5 should be on the wii. I mean if R.E.5 is for the PS3 and on the 360, why not the wii. The wii has good controlling, I for one am a very big fan of resident. Please make R.E.5 for the wii...!!!<>
