Since it was announced Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles has seen its fair share of complaints from gamers who refuse to accept any changes to their favorite franchises, and who believe RE should be a third-person shooter only. I admit that I had my doubts about the on-rails gameplay, but I've done a lot of thinking and I'm glad that Capcom has decided to give us most (or all), of the previous Resident Evil games in one easy to play package.
The fact is that every RE game before RE4 was a nightmare to play. Not because they were scary, but because they had horrible controls. More than once I've had the desire to go back and relive the previous games, but quickly changed my mind at the thought of the slow moving, tank-like handling. Since I started playing Resident Evil 4 Wii Edition I've really wanted to go back and re-acquaint myself with the characters and stories of the RE series, but there is no way I'm going to actually pick and play the games. That is why I'm happy about Umbrella Chronicles.
With UC I can easily go back and relive the previous games easily, comfortably and without the horrible controls. It's like a fat-free dessert that actually tastes good. This has me even more excited about this game - even though I already love on-rails light gun games. Sure it would be nice if all the previous games were re-made with RE4 Wii controls, but that's asking a lot. Capcom, though, has given us the next best thing.
