Sony is boasting to have reached the 1 million shipped mark for North America in 2006 - half the number of PS3s they planned on. In spite of this feat, sites like
vgcharts.org that compile sales figures (with questionable accuracy), have the PS3 at only 1.4 million units sold worldwide while the Wii is over 4 million. And to be clear, units shipped does not equal units sold. Shipped units refers to the units that stores buy from Sony, and sold units refers to the consoles actually purchased by consumers.
If it's true, and I'm inclined to believe that it is, that PS3 consoles are
collecting dust on store shelves all across America this 1 million mark is hardly anything for Sony to boast about. Expect rumors of a PS3 price cut around April, and a major PS3 price cut not long after.
