Harmonix: Don't Like the EU Price? Too Bad!

posted 11 April 2008, Friday

To recap my main point: we’re not gouging you, primarily because doing so doesn’t serve our interests. We can only build our franchise if you buy our games. You may conclude that Rock Band isn’t worth the price charged, and that is your prerogative. But it’s not magically going to get cheaper because you wish it to be so. - Greg, Product Development, Harmonix

One of the first rules of PR speak and damage control is when they tell you they aren't doing something it pretty much guarantees that they are. Rock Band costs twice as much in the EU as in the US, but no there is no gouging going on right? Greg would like us to believe that somehow shipping boxes have contributed to a 100% increase in price, but according to UK gamers you can import the game for much, much less than what Harmonix is asking for.

The best part is if you don't like the explanation you can pretty much go to hell as explained by Greg's little "it's not going to get cheaper" comment. Defensive much Greg? A forum goer summed up his stupid comment by saying "it will magically get cheaper if nobody buys it." So if you live in the UK and want the price of Rock Band to come down don't buy it, and watch the magic happen.

UPDATE: I just wanted to add that this game is being published by EA so if you want to know why this game is such a ripoff that's one big part of it right there.
