If you are a tax paying US resident of Illinois, Michigan, Louisiana, Minnesota, Indiana, Missouri or Washington you should be ecstatic to know that backwards politicians and anti-videogame activists like Jack Thompson have cost you $1.5 million dollars in useless lawsuits and legislation. That's right. This is what the ESA has been collecting from all of those unconstitutional laws that try to ban videogames because of sex or violence. To be specific here is a breakdown:
Illinois - $510,000
Indianapolis - $318,000
Missouri - $180,000
Washington - $344,000
Michigan - $180,000
Minnesota - $73,000
Louisiana - $157,000
These fees are legal fees that the ESA has been collecting to pay back their lawyers and to punish the states for ever making such blatantly unconstitutional laws. In many cases the ESA has to get a judge to FORCE the state to pay up for their mistakes. I'm not happy that taxpayers are getting shafted by their government, but if they don't want to get screwed they need to pay more attention to what their elected officials are doing and stop electing the same offenders.
Hopefully, politicians will wise up - especially since election season is over - and stop making ridiculous laws. Most importantly they need to stop listening to people like Jack Thompson who has cost YOU THE TAXPAYER all that money while not losing a single dime himself. Thompson, like a cancer, goes from city to city spreading misery and failure all in the name of his misguided personal agenda. When will he be stopped?
